PRIVATE RESIDENCE I

RIDGEWOOD, NEW JERSEY

This late 19th century Georgian mansion required a renovation  that included a family room, a kitchen, an expanded master bedroom suite, and a garage. Working with Poskanzer Skott Architects a strategic design decision was made to construct a free standing 3 car garage towards the rear of the house, thus maintaining the existing structure's carefully balanced front façade. The garage was connected to the house by way of a columned arcade. At the opposite end of the arcade one would enter the house by way of a new mud room and kitchen. A family room was added to the back of the house, which afforded the opportunity for the master bedroom to receive a balcony. The entire addition and renovation is tied together with a 2 story gallery along the existing main stair. The stair landing is now an interior balcony overlooking the gallery. The original stained glass windows located on the stair have been relocated to other locations in the house.
